Blogs and the new Internet

If you have been paying attention to the Internet, in the last months, you should have notice that a lot of stuffs are changing on Internet. Some call it web 2.0, others prefer Social Web, and others already talk about Web 2.5 or Web 3.0. More recently some prefer to say “chmod 777 web“.

I think the name it’s not important. The important is that the Internet as we know it is changing at a high speed. The web is changing to a place where most of the contents are produced by common people. Internet is changing to a more social one, where new social movements create new social relations and where applications are each time more web-based and user-centric. Internet is definitely changing and I think blogs are playing a key role on this process. If blogs wouldn’t exist or if they weren’t so popular, what would happen to services like del.icio.us, Flickr, Digg, Netvibes or other stuffs like Ruby on rails or AJAX, would they exist? And if so, would they be a success, like today?

What do you think, please give me your opinion. What role do you think blogs are playing on this new Internet?
